Just saw the trailer of the movie My name is khan and the way Sharukh Khan speaks sounds exactly similar to Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump. Talk of inspiration.
Will wait for the movie to find out more :)

Idiocracy
Question- Which is the thing that is available most abundantly on the planet?
Answer- No, Its not Air or Water. The answer is Idiocy.
No, I didn't got the idea of writing this after watching 3 Idiots but after seeing many idiots fighting over how much 3 Idiots is inspired/lifted from Five point Someone.
Consider the statements from the Idiots err. gentlemen below-
Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Shouting at a journalist not to say anything if he has not read the novel. He forgot that Aamir khan said some time back that he also has not read the novel but is giving quotes at all the interviews.
Aamir khan, saying only 3-5% of movie is inspired from the novel. (He said in previous statement that he has not read the novel). I can't still fathom how to find out how much percentage of the movie is inspired without reading the novel. But its not as difficult for Aamor, ask Vidhu Vinod Chopra may be ?
Aamir Khan, saying Chetan Bhagat is hungry for publicity. Consider the fact that he was around the tour of India in disguise for publicising his movie. (Before some idiot says Aamir doesn't require any publicity let me add that he is the once doing all kind of weird but good publicity for his movies)
RajKumar Hirani- The great director that he is, he is also a good speaker. he suggests that they should sue Chetan Bhagat for defamation. Sue him if you should but please give the judge the edited copy of 3 idiots which is half an hour long, the maximum that is not copied from the novel :)
All said from this Idiot let me add that the movie is really very good and a master piece from RajKumar Hirani. Please watch it.....
Addition to the Original Post:
When a movie is made out of a novel there is bound to be some changes in the screenplay.
Anybody who makes a movie out of novel have some reasons for it one of which is they will get a ready made basic plot and second good publicity about the movie. Later they change the story as required so that it works well for the movie. You can’t imagine the same done to a JRR Tolkien, JK Rowling, Dan Brown, Robert Ludlum etc as they have very strong copyright laws in there part of world.
Previously when Hello was made from 'One night at the call center' they made CB as co-script writer as it was made by a small production company and they needed all the help and publicity they can get, so they did all the effort to publicize that its inspired from a CB novel.
But in case of 3 Idiots produced by a big and well funded production house under VV Chopra, they have good number of writers at there disposal including the superbly talented Raj Kumar Hirani.
CB did a mistake(and I think he realized it later) by signing the contract giving the rights for his novel and a name display at the end of the movie, probably he didn’t realise that after the 3 Idiots script was ready he won’t be credited at all.
In case of 3 idiots everybody who has seen the movie knows atleast that it is inspired from a novel. The producer didn't need CB to publicise for there movie, already having Aamir Khan and Munnabhai director at there disposal. They have put CB name at the end of the movie only because of the contract and I don't think CB would have been able to do anything if VV Chopra had made the movie without crediting him at all. I think CB should have been more careful before signing the contract instead of complaining of not giving him due credit later.
